What is the difference between a coffee pot and a tea poT?
The teapot and coffee pot were different for very practical reasons that existed when these beverages were introduced. The manner in which we prepare and enjoy these beverages today diminishes the need for different shapes and features. So before we all start singing "I'm a little teapot, short and stout", let's step away from our handy coffee makers and imagine brewing up a delicious pot of coffee or a pot of tea. Firstly, you would have selected the ingredients and put them in the pot: coffee grounds or tea leaves. It will be helpful to have photo examples as we explain the differences. We selected a teapot and a coffeepot from the same pattern because different patterns and manufacturers may produce variations specific to their styles. Even with these artistic differences, the original reasons for the shapes remain the same. The differences extend beyond the pot’s size and shape and include the placement of the spout and handle. Please read on as we cover each of these factors.

SHAPE: Teapots are wide, rounded, or squat to allow the tea leaves to expand and circulate. Coffee pots are tall, narrow, and slender to keep the grounds at the bottom and to maintain heat.
SPOUT’: A teapot's spout is typically located lower on the body, near the bottom. However, a coffee pot's spout is positioned higher up to prevent the settled coffee grounds from pouring out.
HANDLE: This feature is not often discussed, but notice in the example that the coffee pot handle goes from near the top and stops at the belly of the pot. By contrast, the teapot handle goes from the top to the bottom and follows the round shape of the teapot.
